Still Status Quo
About a quarter of a year has gone by, and there is still no money from NJ DOT.
NJ DOT representatives had told us that once the keys were handed over (never mind that the deed was magically transferred over to NJ DOT March 2009), that at least the money that they have put in an escrow account (not even close to what we should be due) will be released to us.
As business owners, we do not qualify for unemployment. Our means of business has been taken away. We cannot make an income, and NJ DOT has not release any money to us.
This is definitely economic hardship for us. We have bills that we needed to pay for from the last few months of operation. We have on-going bills which we do not have the income to pay from.
There really isn’t anything worse that we can think of. All the hard work for so many years just disappeared, and there is absolutely nothing to show for it.
The thing that keeps us going is the support that our friends give us. Many people have contacted us to see how we are doing. Everyone is asking when the Pearl will be back.
One thing is for sure: we will keep fighting. We hope that we get a chance soon in court to show how unfair we have been treated. We hope that we will be able to be compensated enough so that we can actually afford to get another place, and bring back the Pearl.
Thank you, everyone, for your caring and support. We are doing as well as we can now, and we hope to see all of you soon.
